Description

A delightful treat combining rich red velvet cake and creamy filling, perfect for any special occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the sugar and butter together until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, buttermilk, food coloring, and vanilla until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Drop tablespoon-sized amounts of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
  8. For the filling, beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  9. Spread filling on the flat side of one whoopie pie and top with another to create a sandwich.
