A delicious twist on classic French toast, combining rich crème brûlée flavors with a creamy texture and a crisp caramelized top, perfect for special occasions or weekend brunch.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf of French bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- Butter (for greasing)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
- Slice the French bread into thick slices and arrange them in the greased baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they are all soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- Remove the dish from the refrigerator in the morning; sprinkle brown sugar on top of the bread.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden and set.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving, then use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar on top to create a crispy crust. Serve warm.
Notes
Serve warm, with fresh fruits, whipped cream, or maple syrup. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days, reheating in the oven or skillet.
